Content Posts: 63 Joined: 18 Feb 2007 | Classes are not meant to be balanced. MMORPGs are meant to be group based. Hence the MM part! In this Vanguard has succeeded. Once you reach a certain level you need to rely on the help of others to progress, even as a cleric. No issue at all in my opinion. If I wanted to solo I'd play Oblivion.

Posts: 87 Joined: 14 Feb 2007 | true i was more so talking about my the PvP server's where as a cleric can solo just about any class and most 4 dot NPC with ease which doesnt really reinforce their group roll but i guess i see your point i'm very very happy with what vanguard has done just would like to see a small tweak like that as to stop alot of people from whining, show the PvP junkies some love! =P

Posts: 87 Joined: 14 Feb 2007 | heh... hopefully they read this and put in some of our ideas! although i do want the warriors duel wield skill on my DK... but then again my greatsword hits pretty hard lol... can normally take out a light armor user in 3-5 hits **edit**

Content Posts: 63 Joined: 18 Feb 2007 | That's just it though folks, this game isn't supposed to be balanced. Brad himself was quoted as being proud that the game has no balance amongst classes as it will encourage grouping. Every class has it's counterclass. If they use the tools available to them they will devistate their enemy. The object is to encourage you to group. If you cannot solo that cleric, get a friend. The cleric dies 2v1 and he gets a friend, etc., etc. until you've got group versus group PVP happening. A lot of it weighs in on using chains, openers, reactives, and finishers. Tanks versus casters for example, if the tank does not use his reactives he is going to get owned. Period. If he uses abilities wisely and counts on his reactives the mage won't stand a chance. I've seen a tank practically 2 shot a mage of equal level using reactives. Likewise I've seen a tank die without touching a mage because of poor (or no) use of reactives. With Vanguard they are trying to break away from the solo PVP aspect of former games. I can't blame them, personally I like it better this way (even if I'm losing).

Posts: 87 Joined: 14 Feb 2007 | yes i know this however some classes are abit too far ahead (atleast from what i've seen) so far caster/healer > tank, tank > offensive class, caster > healer, offensive fighter > caster, only healers a tank can take are those in light armor so we can do alot of dps while they spam heals and do no damage however in the case of a shaman the pet will eat us alive as they out tank us (which kinda ruins the point of the tanks) however other then that i'm very happy with grouping aspect oh and the caster > tank thing is when they get a first strike (in my case cause i can cause mass DPS)

Columnist Posts: 350 Joined: 12 Nov 2002 | It all comes down to that you can't have balanced classes in a game that caters to both PvE and PvP because in the long run some one will get screwed over because they lose something that put them at a disadvange in one or the other. You have to balance your classes around one rule set or you'll lose interest eventually in both.

QFT, I've played about every major MMO out their, one of the greatest I still think, is UO. (OLD OLD UO) They basically said, you can be a caster or fighter and do well in pvp, However your certain build will get smoked by say a dragon (unless you're a pretty good player). So you had to pick up taming or something to counter the fact it's a dragon, however in PVP taming was ok, but not overly useful. This game just says "Hey, pick a class you like and make friends" I'm ok with that =p |

do you think the game is unbalanced? if yes please give a reason as to why and what could be done to fix it (this is mainly for the PvP server's but can also come into PvE server's aswell)
i find the game to be quite balanced apart from a few of the healer classes because some of them (clerics mainly) can also take a tanking roll and solo where normally you would need a group and to fix this i suggest making one of their heals ONLY useable on someone else that way they can still help themselves while reinforcing their group roll... post yours! very interested in people's opinion on this
